Life gets hard, people judge, co-workers hate, bosses block, family issues, death, loss, stress; it can all be overwhelming sometimes. Constant disappointments can be a real shot to your self esteem. So with that in mind, here are a few of my favorite ways to cope with disappointment.
Prayer is my #1 go to. Life as I see it is much bigger than me so, in order to cope with it’s let downs I have to talk to someone bigger than me and that is GOD. Reading the bible and praying to God gives me a stillness and a peace like no other. His truth me reminds of who I am in his eyes and clears my perspective.
2. Seek an Attitude of Gratitude
Finding things to be thankful for instantly boost mood and keep me from having pity party. Understanding that we have so much to be thankful for keeps our perspective healthy and balanced, allowing us to move past the disappointments quicker.
3. Laugh with a Friend
There is nothing more comforting than a friend that really loves you. Seeking solace in the comfort of a friend is a real remedy for recovery.
4. Sing & Dance
This is one that is dear to my heart. Expressing yourself through a creative outlet releases healthy endorphins and takes your mind off of the negative circumstances. Movement & creativity is good for the soul.
Taking a sober look at the how, what, when & where of your situation in order to create an actionable plan for improvement is key. Once you have overcome the sting of disappointment, creating and actionable plan to make any necessary adjustments and is the next essential step to full recovery.
The best is yet to come.
