This summer don’t let your wallet dictate how fashion forward you can be.
Here are 5 ways to create your favorite looks on a budget
Shop Second hand
This first point may seem like a “no brainer” but you would be surprised how it is commonly overlooked. When shopping second hand you have to be “Inspector Gadget.” Check the clothes for stains, loose buttons, faulty zippers etc. Most second hand stores do this work for you before they accept the items but it is always best for you to do a double check. These store cut prices in half if not more and some second hand stores specialize in designer pieces. These designer second hand stores stores mark their prices up higher than others due to the brands that they carry but those prices are in no way near the cost those items would sell at retail value. Also here is the kicker……the brands are almost 100% authentic. No knock off’s baby!! Second hand is the way to shop on a budget.
Know Your Style
Have a game plan for what you are looking for before you step into the store and also know the look you are trying to achieve. That will narrow your focus and keep you from over spending on impulse items. (Unless you are like me and deviate from the plan all the time and still spend on items you don’t need justifying it because you have a fashion blog 🙂 ) Just saying. Lol
Coupon // Watch Sales
Don’t under estimate the power of a good App, coupon or sales sign. Always browse the clearance rack even if you think you won’t find something you are looking for, you probably will. Also if you don’t know about this app try downloading “Cartwheel.” It’s an app created for Target shoppers that shows you deals within in the store and provides discounts when you check out at the counter! I hear they are about to merge with the Target app itself so if you cannot locate this app try downloading the Target app and the same functionality should be there.
Don’t be Gender Bias (This applies more to Women than Men)
Do you love joggers? Did you love that mens t-shirt but wished it was stocked on the women’s side of the store? Are they out of your size in those fresh Nike’s but they seem fully stocked in the Men’s section??? Then BUY IT IN THE MENS SECTION!!!!!! Yes. Anatomically women and men are built differently and the cuts, materials and sizes are different but there are some items that come cheaper in the mens dept. For example you can find shoes, jackets, hats, tanks, and Tee’s cheaper sometimes in the clearance section of a mens store. If you can’t find that perfect tank in your section, mosey on over and check out what the boys are wearing. Fashion is pushing towards a more unisex culture with items that can be worn by both men and women alike. For this reason, test the waters. Those mens 34×36 distressed jeans may be the missing piece to completing your ideal look.
Don’t be brand Prejudice
There are some stores that I used to walk past and say ” how could anyone shop there. Those clothes are tacky, cheap & terrible.” Then one day I actually went into those stores and thought that those clothes were indeed tacky, cheap looking and terrible. But then I discovered that there were also a slew of hidden gems amongst those sea of racks and when paired with the right accompanying garment would make for a stellar outfit! The goal is not to perpetrate like you can afford those 1000 dollar pair of Yeezy boots. The goal is to have enough style & taste that if you could afford those boots, you would know exactly how to style yourself and what to wear them with. Let’s say it together everyone “HAVING MONEY DOESN’T MEAN YOU HAVE FASHION SENSE,” and vice versa. So stop judging Payless and go in there Boogie Betty!! I bet you will find the style of shoe you were hoping for at a very budget friendly penny!
